Carla:
After a few major travel abroad experiences, Audra and I decided before leaving that it was time to ditch the excess and make this trip one of extreme efficiency. We each brought just one backpack, about half the size of a full-sized model, and a purse. We didn't compare packing lists before leaving and were definitely sizing each other up as we walked around the airport on our first day. She envied the solid six inches of empty space at the top of my pack, I chidded her for bringing a sleeping bag.
Of course during our first 24 hours of travel, I was the one sheepishly asking if I could use that very same sleeping bag to sprawl out for a serious airport nap (see facebook album linked above). As proud as I was of my austere packing job, I have definitely been taking advantage of the buddy system here. As of now, the following items have somehow migrated from her backpack into mine:
-1 pair of socks
-1 pair of underwear (which I am currently wearing)
-1 pair of tights (also currently on my body)
-a scarf
-pajama pants
-2 magazines
There was also a point at which I was sleeping in her fleece, and I wore one of her dresses to dinner the last time we went out. She drew the line at the fleece. I have to admit, this relationship has not been entirely reciprocal. But hey! I AM carrying all of our earrings!
Ain't packing light great?

Truly 'lite' would be the two of you alternating days with a lone pair of underwear. Go big or go home?
